This week has been a strange one for me. Very strange in uplifting ways; I can now wake up early in the morning (well, sometimes). Since I was a child, getting out of bed in the morning has been one of life’s most challenging things for me! I always wondered at myself how I could be a photographer, and yet not be able to partake in the Lord’s glory of the morning sunrise. For the last few days, things have changed. Something lifts me out of bed, I have no idea what it is. I don’t know if it is because I am getting dad instincts, anticipating a new born that is more likely to disrupt my sleep habits when they finally announce their grand entry into my twitterverse. That said, today I had an opportunity to go into the wild very early this the morning to take some photographs in our Brickerville, just outside of the Lititiz neighborhood, in Lancaster County). And boy, I found a myriad of spider webs as I was heading to track the morning mist cascaded by sun-rays. My wife is certainly not happy that my clothing and shoes came back all dirty, but you tell me if it wasn’t worth it. And I intend to do it again, again, and again :) But more than anything, I want these images to reflect the beauty and glory of God; His power, His craftsmanship, His artistry, His love, His attention to you and to every detail; His everything. Reflect on these images, and may they take you into a deeper sense of worship of God; may you also feel His warm embrace knowing that He who takes care of the sparrows and spiders cares for you even much much more. I also want to live this quote from the great theologian and philosopher, Saint Augustine: “Men go abroad to wonder at the heights of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motions of the stars, and they pass by themselves without wondering.”
